Mackeral Adventure

We spent the morning at the City Market buying ingredients for our meal.  The adventerous part for me was buying whole mackeral from the fish market in Chinatown Market.  I have never had mackeral and never eaten fish with the head and tail on it!!  We ended up making baked whole mackeral with lemon and oregano.(see recipe).  It was pretty good a little fishy tasting. I have to admit that my husband cleaned the fish....ewww... and cut the head off before I ate it.  The fish staring at me was a bit too much for my appetite!! lol..   Check out the pictures and answer the poll!
All in all I give the fish a rating of 5 out of 10, fishy tasting and bones, not to mention the head! The side dish salad an 8.5, very refreshing, it felt like summer!  We bought all fresh vegetables at the farmers market and the olives and motzerella from an Italian deli!

  1. Great blog. I don't like a lot of different fishes but it is good to know that the City Market is open :)

    1. Brush tuna with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Sear tuna in a hot pan until medium rare. Serve with a red wine reduction sauce. Add red wine to a pan with some butter. Cook slowly until it reduces to a syrup consistency. Enjoy!

  4. Helen, great blog! You had me at fish for dinner. I've never had fresh mackeral and I'm kind of interested in trying it. Thanks for the tip.

  5. Very nice blog! I don't eat seafood at all so I know there is no way I could eat fish with the head still on it. I am sure our famous fisherman Gerald has before.

  6. My husband has a story about me and eating things that still have eyeballs among other things...he took me to The Savoy Grill for our anniversary one time and we ordered Jumbo Lobster for two. I had never eaten lobster before. They brought out the food with a lobster that had been freshly caught and cooked, and samuari'd in half.I guess the look on my face was priceless:) All I could see was the eyeball and feeler and then the anatomy of the insides was what really got me!(too much medical knowledge) My husband told me to remind him to never take me to a nice place to eat again! I think I will stick to fish and chips.
